Website Redesign | Red House Internship

During my 2023 summer internship at Red House Communications, I helped redesign Touchstone’s website to provide more organization and user-friendly functionality so that it acts both as the first introduction to Touchstone and as a portal for all of the services they offer. My role was to build initial concepts by creating low-fi prototypes.

What is Touchstone?

Touchstone Center for Crafts is a center that offers workshops in seven fully equipped studios. They also provide facility rentals, creative retreats, gallery exhibitions, scholarships, and internships for emerging artists.

What’s the problem?

Touchstone’s existing website suffers from information overload making it difficult to navigate and leading to a decline in workshop registrations and other user activity. Our goal was to create a user-friendly interface that accommodates various user profiles, including workshop registrants, donors, and event planners.

Site Map

When considering user flow, we created three main page types—a homepage, landing page, and detail page. We categorized information based on the level of importance and what we wanted users to see first. 

Homepage

Direct links to frequently visited pages were placed on the homepage for easy access. 

Events & Exhibitions

Includes an interactive calendar with ongoing events. Users are able to view details on the selected event. Calendar is able to collapse to leverage available space.

Workshops

Viewable in list and calendar format.

Workshop Filter (filter by medium, age, instructor, start date, search)

Checkout Procedure: Items in the cart can include workshops and events that have a fee. Donation purchases are handled separately.
